Summary I'm 15 years old and have been making films for over 3 years. I recently purchased my Canon Gl2 off of ebay from a guy who sold it with extra items, all for $1500. It was refurbished and i was very excited to see the camera had absolutley no scratches. The package came with the following: Raynox XL-3000 pro 0.3x semi-fisheye lens, Optics 2x telephoto lens, Optics wide angle, Optics Macro, vidpro carrying case, and a tripod. The man i bought it from also had sold me a head cleaner which solves the problem that everyone talks about... Tape tray error. Everybody is just careless and doesnt use a head cleaner tape every month on a regular bases. if you do that, the problem will be solved. Overall this camera is great bases on style, qaulity, cost, and purpose. This camera is excelent for all ages and all levels of production
Strengths THis camera has great quality, is extremely fantastic in low-light, takes "professioal" pictures when according to qaulity, and is a very light weight and portable camera that is easy to use and easy to operate at almost any age.
Weaknesses The only thing that is bad is the auto-power off system which shuts down the camera if it is not used for over 5 minutes. This may come in handy so it doesnt break the internal parts, yet it is very distracting sometimes and gets in the way when you want to make a time lapse of something.

Summary I am only 14 years old but i have really gotten into videography. I used to use a sony dcr-240, but last christmas i got a Canon Gl2. i did heavy research on almost every 3ccd cameras and after looking at reviews and talking to people and the gl2 deffinently is the best in its class. I am only 14 and it is very easy to use even though i'm a little advanced for my age. The Picture quality is AMAZING!!!! frame movie mode is VERY useful i use it for almost evey shot.
Strengths *variable zoom
*zoom and record button on the handle
*frame movie mode
*AMAZING picture quality, better than most documetaries on TV
*manual audio
*light wieght
*ND filter
*audio quality
*easy to use
*custom presets
Weaknesses *a little top heavy near the lens but if you have a long life battery it evens it out
*the battery that it comes with only lasts an hour or so.
Summary Great camera. A lot of professional features in a compact body. I had my eye on Canon's XL1 for a long time, but it had features I wouldn't need that make it cost over $1,000 more (i.e. XLR input and Exchangable Lenses). The image quality of this camera is just as good, and it's more compact/low profile. The buttons and menus may be difficult to navigate, though.
Strengths Great image and fully controllable manual features.
Weaknesses Setting manual features requires going back and forth between buttons and wheels on the front and back of the camera. Almost requires the use of both hands - not something to do on the fly.

Customer Service The store I bought from tried to rip me off with a damaged open-box camera, but I got them good with their price-guarantee which made them give me $400 back!
Summary I did a lot of research before I purchased the Canon GL2. Now that I have it in hand I am pleased to say it has far exceeded my expectations for clarity, and ease of operation. I needed to take indoor sports videos and wanted to stop the action. When I take videos in the
'frame' mode it is like shooting a 35mm single lens reflex camera 30 times each second. With ambient light in a sports arena I am able to adjust the shutter speed of each frame to 1/500 second. Very excellent for stopping the action. If it bright outside it can be adjusted to 1/15,000 second, stopping the rotation of propellers on an aircraft. It is a first class piece of machinery. Shop around...the lowest price is not necessarily the best price. READ the reviews about the vendor before making your decision.
Strengths Adjustable color, ease in handling, crystal clear lens. Excellent low light capability. It has been consistent with all the positive reviews that I had read before buying the GL2
Weaknesses It has a 'no brainer' mode of operation that is very good. It does take a little time to figure out the fancy stuff, but well worth the time. It would be nice to have a slow motion capability. Expensive but worth it. NO Fire wire. You need to have one for sure! That is the only negative, another $30 or so from your computer store. I am not a computer guy at all (pilot by trade) but you absolutely need the fire wire to make the downloading of the video into your computer easier.
